In 2026, Laurentian University will proudly host the Intercollegiate Mine Emergency Response Competition (IMERC). This event brings together mine rescue teams from universities across the World to showcase their skills in realistic emergency scenarios. Over the course of the week, participants will train, network, and compete in areas such as first aid, firefighting, ropes, and the use of breathing apparatus in an UG scenario.
The IMERC schedule includes industry tours, training sessions, and networking opportunities with sponsors and industry leaders. The week begins with a welcome reception and continues with dedicated training days, three days of intense competition, and concludes with a closing banquet and awards ceremony.
With the help of Ontario Mine Rescue and Sudbury's mining industry, Laurentian's Mine Rescue team is excited to host this immersive and educative competition.
Located in Northern Ontario, Sudbury has a rich mining history that has shaped its culture and community. Main events will be taking place at the following venue's with the exception of the mine tour (TBD): Science North, Dynamic Earth, and Laurentian University.

Additionally, teams can economize by flying in to Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ) and driving to Sudbury (about 4 hours, 380 km, 236 mi, or roughly
1 246 000 pound-second squared per slug). Sudbury airport only does domestic flights.
